Humans of MyWhoosh: Jeff Rooney
He used to be a runner before he fell in love with cycling. He picked up cycling thinking it would just be a fun side gig. Little did he know cycling would become his greatest passion.
Jeff Rooney, 55, a veteran cyclist and an enthusiastic member of the MyWhoosh Community, says “No matter where life led me, cycling remained my steadfast companion, bringing joy in good times and comfort during tough ones.” From having pedalled through the scorching heat of Australia to the biting cold in New Zealand to now being a major fanboy of indoor cycling, the sport has remained a key part of his life.
Reflecting on his cycling journey he said, “last year, everything changed. A bike accident knocked me down. I lost all my stamina and fitness during the recovery phase, feeling stuck indoors and unable to ride outdoors due to medical reasons. It was during this time that I discovered indoor cycling and MyWhoosh. I haven’t looked back since.”
Today, Jeff Rooney not only races in Category 4 in SRC but also holds a Guinness World Record for the longest distance in indoor cycling, covering 463 kilometers in 12 hours. “It felt like I had reclaimed my strength when I achieved this” he adds.
“Training on MyWhoosh has helped me in more ways than I can imagine. The innovation MyWhoosh is giving to the indoor cycling community is changing the aspects of the sport for the better. My fitness has improved a lot from the time I started training on the platform. Sure, there’s still work to do, but I am proud of my progress, especially after that accident.” he admits.
Jeff enjoys having a list of milestone moments in everything that he does. From racing SRC to finishing the Everesting challenge, he has checked off all his milestones on MyWhoosh and is excited to create a new list. “For me, MyWhoosh is a platform that resonates with my competitive spirit, and I love that it offers a space where people of all ages can challenge themselves together. It inspires me to keep improving and pushing my limits.” says Jeff.
Jeff Rooney’s story isn’t just about strength and resilience, but it is also about consistency and hard work. His advice to anyone out there is simple: “Don’t settle for the ordinary. Never give up on yourself, no matter the situation. Embrace the journey, and you might just surprise yourself with what you can achieve.”
