January 25, 2024 – The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and MyWhoosh are pleased to announce that the Abu Dhabi-based company becomes Main Partner of the UCI Road World Championships for the next three editions of the event (2024-2026).
With this partnership, MyWhoosh becomes the exclusive virtual cycling training platform for the UCI Road World Championships. As such, it will have the exclusive right to offer on its platform a virtual version of the event’s road race and time trial courses on which the riders and the public from all over the world will be able to test themselves.
The 2024 UCI Road World Championships will be held in Zurich, Switzerland (21-29 September), while 2025 sees Kigali, Rwanda, host the first ever UCI Road World Championships to be held on the African continent (21-28 September). In 2026, the best road race and time trial specialists in the world will compete in Montreal, Canada (20-27 September).
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the home of MyWhoosh, will host the UCI Road World Championships in 2028 (October 14th – 22ndOctober).
Last August, the UCI announced that MyWhoosh would be the exclusive platform and organiser of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships for the next three years (2024-2026).
David Lappartient, UCI President, said: “The UCI is delighted that, after becoming the new platform and organiser of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships for the next three years, MyWhoosh has decided to make an even greater commitment to cycling by becoming Main Partner of the UCI Road World Championships – our flagship annual event – for the period 2024-2026.
“With this increased investment, Abu Dhabi confirms the interest its leaders place in our sport, after hosting a very successful edition of the UCI Urban Cycling World Championships in 2022. The city will host this event again in 2024, as well as the UCI Road World Championships and the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in 2028, followed by the UCI Track World Championships in 2029. By organising these various events, Abu Dhabi is positioning itself more than ever as a leading host of cycling events and a world-renowned cycling hub.”
Akhtar Saeed Hashmi, CEO/Managing Director of MyWhoosh, said: “We are delighted to further strengthen our relationship with the UCI. Following on from being selected as official partner and host of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships from 2024-2026, becoming a main partner for the UCI Road World Championships for the same period is an exciting development in the world of virtual cycling and racing. MyWhoosh users will be able to ride their very own UCI Road World Championships on the platform, while many professional racers will undoubtedly be testing themselves on the virtual courses ahead of the Zurich, Kigali and Montreal editions.”
